Station

Responsive Web Design for Commercialization of Products

In the Commercialization project at Station, my team was tasked to build out marketing collateral for our internal products.

This included a responsive web design, product deck and white paper for each product. The work was assigned through tickets in Jira. The team designed the products in an agile environment within 2 week sprints.

Project Goals

  • To create the materials needed to commercialize our internal products
  • Present the materials to our stakeholders and receive approval of design
  • Create and finalize the branding for each different product

Project Statement

Station's products can only sell to its full potential in the market if they have well-designed consumer facing products. In response to this, we created a responsive web design for each product at Station to show to clients.

Scope of Project (~3 months)

Phase 1: Project Initiation & Planning

Phase 2: Execution

Phase 3: QA

Background

In order for Station's products to be competitive with the products that are already on the market, the design needed to look familiar but still distinct.

We looked into the design of successful products that were already on the market. Some of these products had similar functionality, like Localise, while others were just websites that were selling a software, like Miro and Toggl.

If Station created the products' websites with a completely different look, the user will question if the product is as competitive as the other products. Most software company designs are up to date with the UX/UI trends currently on the market.

Some design trends we discovered that shared a common theme included solid backgrounds, bright media kits, gradient patterns, colorful graphics, and the use of icons and photos.

Our resources included the business analysts, product owners, managers and development team that we could utilize to build out this project. We had access to all the materials because the products were internal. This allowed us to have frequent meetings with the business team to understand the product better and how to market it within the competitive and visual landscape that the product was being sold in.

The product's main limitation was the timeline. The CEO wanted these websites to be created on a fast timeline so that we could pitch them to our clients as soon as possible. With this limitation, we were not able to have the time to build out all of the features of the website that were going to be created from our information architecture that we had created before designing the website. With this factor in mind, we were directed to create the minimum viable product for each website.

Design System

This is an adopted version of the design system we used. We integrated the design concept of atoms/molecules/organisms to break down our compontents.
